• For System 6, you will need approximately 2.1 Megabytes of RAM
Nightingale is set at the factory to run with 1800K of RAM, under System 6 MultiFinder or under System 7. (Under the old single finder and System 6, the Macintosh gives Nightingale all the memory it can.)
System 6 System 7
Nightingale 1800K 1800K
System Software 300K 1200K
Total 2100K 3000K
1800K is enough for Nightingale to work on a single, fairly large score. Naturally, if you are working on a very large project, you may need much more. Conversely, Nightingale can run with as little as 1400K, although only with very small scores. If you have less than 2.1 Megs of RAM, you may want decrease the RAM allocation of Nightingale (for instructions see “Increasing memory allocation” in Appendix A, Trouble Shooting).
If you feel you need more RAM in your Macintosh, prices for memory upgrades have recently become very reasonable. Any qualified technician can install additional memory into your Macintosh.
